Sess E1: Author Presentation - What Happens When a Principal Dresses in a Lemon Suit? | Session evaluation
The growing phenomenon of elementary schools reading one book together as a whole school has provided substantial and far-reaching support to literacy efforts across the county. (A few surprising benefits: school administrators report that tardiness rates drop and discipline problems decrease during the month of reading.) Moreover, studies show that families sustain practices of reading together as a family--even years after the event is over. Jacqueline Davies, the author of THE LEMONADE WAR, which is one of the most widely adopted One School, One Book texts, will talk about the book and why it’s uniquely suited to appeal to readers from kindergarten through grade six. She will then share a grab-bag of ideas collected from schools she has visited that show how to fund, organize, execute, and enjoy a One School, One Book event. (Hint: There a lot of good things that come from a principal dressed up like a giant lemon.) Participants will leave with a list of resources, an action sheet, and the enthusiasm to bring a One School, One Book event to their schools.

E2: Flipping the Library Curriculum | Session evaluation
Are you on a fixed library schedule? How many classes do you teach in a 6 day cycle? The presenter teaches 34 classes and flipping her library instruction has saved her sanity. Come see how the flipping concept allows more time for students to be creative, active learners, and how it extends the reach of the library program by putting the videos online where they are accessible to students, parents, and community members 24/7.
Presented by: Janice Conger, Methacton SD, Skyview Upper Elementary School
E3: Taking a Fresh Look at your Library | Session evaluation
In 1931, Ranganathan proposed five laws detailing the principles of operating a library system. We will revisit these laws in the context of the modern library. This workshop will focus on how librarians are making connections in their school community and beyond. We will also be looking at website basics to help librarians promote information virtually. Come prepared to reflect on your library practice and to seek new ideas from your peers!

E4: Be a Leader: Advocate for the Library Program Your Students Deserve | Session evaluation
Advocate for your students to experience an exemplary library program by appealing to three different audiences: Board of Education, superintendent and principals, and parents. Learn how to prepare and present the “how and why” the school library helps every student achieve academic success, helps teachers enhance their teaching, and helps the district achieve its mission. 2015-2016 Emerging Leaders will demonstrate three model presentations to help you reach these three audiences using strategies that appeal to their specific values and objectives.

E5: Skip Dewey and Skype Around the World | Session evaluation
Amazing opportunities await your students through the use of Skype in the classroom! Connect students to authors, experts, classrooms, and virtual tours beyond the library wall with just a device, webcam, speakers, and the Skype application. See Mystery Skype in action as we play the game and connect with a mystery guest during this session. Upon the reveal of our mystery guest, travel with us via Skype to explore the world of international librarianship. Hear about differences and similarities of what you do to those scattered around the world. You will learn how to become involved with a vibrant group of international librarians and grow your own network.
Presented by: Karey Killian, Milton Area School District & Jen Martin, International librarian
